Frequently asked questions
We accept children starting at the age of two years old until they turn six. If your child has not turned two yet, you can still schedule a visit and time to meet our teachers and be added to the waitlist until they turn two.
No, not at all. Your child can attend Teremok speaking little to no Russian at all. As well, if they speak Russian, they do not need to speak English to attend.
At this age, children learn language naturally through daily routines, songs, stories, play, and warm relationships with teachers. Many children start by listening and understanding. Speaking comes as they feel safe and confident. (Research reference: Hoff et al., Journal of Child Language, 2012 — https://doi.org/10.1017/S0305000910000759)
Learning two languages at once is actually beneficial and will not confuse your child. It is common for young bilingual children to mix words sometimes — this is a normal stage of learning, not confusion. Research shows that children can distinguish two languages when they hear them regularly in a consistent environment. (Research reference: Petitto et al., Brain and Language, 2012 — https://doi.org/10.1016/j.bandl.2011.05.003)(https://doi.org/10.1016/j.bandl.2011.05.003)
Learning a second language is great for children. Bilingual learning supports communication and can also strengthen skills such as attention and flexible thinking. It may also support early literacy awareness — noticing how language works. (Research references: Carlson & Meltzoff, 2008 — https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1467-7687.2008.00675.x | Bialystok et al., 2005 — https://doi.org/10.1207/s1532799xssr0901_4)
Most importantly, children gain confidence, cultural connection, and a broader view of the world.
Not at all.
Many families choose bilingual preschool even if they do not speak the language at home. What matters most is consistent exposure in the classroom — plus simple, joyful reinforcement if you’d like (songs, picture books, little phrases).

We move gently.
We use a predictable daily rhythm, a small group environment, and calm, attentive teachers. Children are allowed time to observe before they participate. When they feel safe, language and confidence unfold naturally.
